Traineeships - Building Staff Capacity and Confidence
Facilitated by Stella Turner and Tim Chewter, AELP, Matt Garvey, WBTC and Jo North, In Touch Care.
|
|
In the context of high youth unemployment, traineeships have the potential to be a real success in offering a route-way to sustained employment and further training for young people. However, it is clear that traineeships have been slow to get off the ground and providers are in need of support to build staff confidence and capacity. The Traineeship Staff Support Programme, commissioned and funded by The Education and Training Foundation, was launched to meet this need and develop resources that support the workforce, positively impacting on learners and employers.
Come and hear from project leads on some of their emerging findings, and how you can better support your staff to deliver traineeships. Whether you currently deliver traineeships or are looking to in the future, this workshop will no doubt be beneficial to you and your workforce.

The National Numeracy Challenge
Facilitated by Mike Ellicock, National Numeracy

National Numeracy was launched as a Charity in March 2012, to bring an unrelenting spotlight onto the importance of numeracy or everyday maths for individuals and for the UK as a whole. The Challenge, is our first major project and was launched in March.
The Challenge is built around a non-threatening interactive website designed to anonymously assess and improve participants’ everyday maths skills in bite-sized steps – building confidence along the way. We have had over 30,000 registrations already – with a target of improving the numeracy of over 1m adults in the first 5 years.
Mike will provide an overview of the Challenge and describe our work with the Behavioural Insights Team (aka the ‘Nudge Unit’) to use the Challenge to explore innovative ways of supporting everyone in the UK to reach a level of numeracy that allows them to meet their full potential.
